Main Squeeze Monday: Picnik and Nike

Today I cannot decide what I enjoyed more about this weekend - discovering Picnik.com OR getting my new Nike Obsessed capri's in the mail and wearing them during my track workout... They are neck and neck for my favorite things right now...

Picnik is an online photo editor - that is SO much fun!! It allowed to me to make my new header for the blog, which I absolutely love and had a ton of fun making!!

You can make collages of all shapes and sizes, add text and graphics to your pictures, change the color of them... and it is all free - that's right free right now because the not so good news is... is that Picnik is moving/closing in April!! They're moving to google+ or some such nonsense.. So until April I will be using this website like it's my second job playing with my pictures.. and after that.. well I just might cry!

And to do a complete 180 on y'all...

I don't know about y'all but I try to rock the spandex, and the running tights and it's just not working out for me. I have such disproportioned features that it just doesn't look good, and I'm okay with that, and I'm at a point where I can admit that... So I scoured the world wide webs looking for some kind of running pant that was still cute and stylish yet would camouflage the wide caboose that I was so generously blessed with and I found these -

And I absolutely love them - so much I bought two pairs!! Especially after trying on these and leaving the store almost in tears because I'm pretty sure they showed every unflattering part of my body with a magnifying glass. The Nike obsessed crops don't show everything - they are loose fitting and dry fit so they keep me warm, but not too warm - because as you all know I am a sweater... and they don't hug me in all the wrong places! Which is SO important! So far I've ran, done spinning, and a "speed" sesh in them and NO complaints!!! So if your a little junkier in your trunk area - these are for you!! And you can thank me later!

Happy Monday y'all!!! My week four recap will be up tomorrow and just so you know it was so not a bust!!

Random Friday

There is an "11 things" post floating around the inter webs and for lack of better things to blog about and being completely repetitive about running and how slow I am I thought I 'd join in! That Pink Girl was tagged twice because she's cool like that and she invited anyone that wanted to join to join in - pick me! pick me! I didn't answer both sets of questions because we all don't know each that well and I hate to reveal so much of myself at one time.. And I'm just tired..

1.      What is the last thing you took a picture of?  My new hair!

I got like 5-6 inches cut off!! And after living here for "2 1/2" years I finally decided to pay up and get it cut at a salon here. I didn't do as much damage as I planned and I was so ready for something new.

2.      If you eat eggs, what is your favorite way to make them? Scrambled, fried, omelet, hard boiled.. you name it and I will eat it! I love eggs!!

3. What is your favorite board game? I haven't played a board game in years and years - maybe Clue. I love a good mystery!

4. Do you prefer dogs, cats, or some other pet?  Both! We have a cat and a dog. I am definitely more of a dog person though. I love my puppy!

6. Cake or pie? mmm cake. I love it! Vanilla and Vanilla is my favorite!

7. If you could move anywhere in the world, where would it be? Anywhere I can have this view -

8. If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be?  I am going on my dream vacation!! Africa!!!

9. What is your favorite color? I love hot pink but if I'm buying something and I have the choice between the two colors I always choose purple - so purple is my favorite.

10. How many siblings do you have? 1 older sister

11. If you were invited to a wedding reception but not the ceremony, would you be offended?  I don't think so - I should've done that to save so much money!! Except I am super sensitive and might have take this personally depending on how well I know the person... That Pink Girl

What is one random fact about yourself? Feel free to join in!!

Week 3 Recap: Seaside 1/2

In case you were worried about the hubs on his birthday - I made meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans for dinner. It was amazing, if I say so myself. And we went to Pinkberry for a birthday dessert BUT poor hubs, they were out of his favorite flavor so I got some..

Pomegranate with strawberries, blueberries, and chocolate crunch - SO good.

On to training... I do run every now and again..

What was supposed to happen in week three of training... as opposed to what really happened during week three of training - I will say that It was my most consistent week...

3 mile run + Spin
4 mile run
6 mile Run
Strength+ 40 min
(20 min @10:30/ 20min @ 10:15
5 mile pace (10:30)
rest
8 mile long run

Monday: I had a very nice 3 mile run + spinning - I have not done a spinning class in about a year and oh my buns.. my poor, poor buns. There was chafing, and there has been subsequent bruising. To places I didn't think even touched the bike - but what do I know?

Tuesday: 4 miles = didn't happen. I'd love to have some great excuse but it had something to do with "I'm so tired" and I took my contacts out for the first time since I'm not real sure when, and I just could not get them back in my eyeballs..

Wednesday: 6 miles. Oh yes I did. Go me. And at a 10:46 pace to boot! Then worked on my legs with some lunges and squats and more lunges.

Thursday: wanted to run and spin again. Spinning = yes. Running = no. Y'all I forgot to wear a sports bra!! Don't worry I had some support but not the kind I like when working out. I like Nike DriFit. And the worst part is, is that I never wear a regular bra. I just don't. Give me the uni-boob sports bra look any day - I just find it more comfortable and the one day that I go out and decide to be normal - I'm so scatter brained I leave for the gym without even thinking!!! I'm sitting there spinning and thinking OMG good thing I am not so blessed or I'd be worse off than half the ladies in this class!!!! Ladies: a good sports bra is key for your girls!! But at least I got to spin.

Friday: Major GI issues - major. Need I say more. The whole 2.55 miles I got in - I was praying I didn't embarrass myself at the gym..

Saturday: Thought about redemption from Friday and get my 5 miles in. But there was snow. So I followed my schedule for once and took a rest day. Easy enough.

Sunday: 8 miles at 11:06 pace. I played with the speed a lot to keep myself from going too crazy and getting too bored. But nice and easy. Why yes I did complete these on the dreaded treadmill BUT I watched the episode from Biggest Loser last week and every time I heard Dolvett scream "go! go! go!" I increased my speed a little bit. Great motivation. And nothing like almost losing it while the red team got to Skype with their families and trying to breathe and not lose my balance all at the same time.

I think week three wasn't a complete bust - there's room for improvement and week four is going to be a huge test for me because I have my first double digit run planned and its supposed to be freezing cold and raining most of the week...

I am a wimp I know - It's not terrible weather. It definitely could be worse BUT when you're used to this-

It makes going out in the latter kind of difficult...

Anywho - my game plan from week four -

I know, I know - speed work after a long run.. probably not going to be my best decision but it's just the way the cookie crumbles.. or really it's just the way it works out with my work schedule. Because I'm not eating any cookies right now. We shall see if I can stick to it!

AND... my favorite Harley picture of the week just for kicks...

Happy Running!

Main Squeeze Monday: My main squeeze is getting older!!

I would just like to take this time in my little corner of the interwebs to wish my other half a very very Happy Birthday!! He is getting SO old!! It's been almost 10 years since we started dating - that's 9 years of birthdays... and buying cards and gifts - good thing he didn't want anything because I am out of good, fresh ideas this year!! (It is a long time ago, I know)

His day already started out great because I woke up at the crack of the dawn to make him breakfast -

A special birthday paleo breakfast of bacon and eggs! But then he had to go to work.. The puppy and I will just lounge around all day for him! Isn't that so kind of us? I thought so.

If you need either one of us - this is where we will be - waiting for the birthday boy to get home from work - but just in case you're worried he'll be mistreated on his birthday with no gift and only getting breakfast.. have no fear - I'm making dinner too. I know, I know - stop the presses - cooking twice in one day. It's absolutely unheard of around here. And I'm even going to clean the bathroom. Happy birthday to the hubs right? Dinner and a clean bathroom!? Who could ask for more!? Oh yeah, and I found some sweats at Sports Authority that I wanted.. So I'll even change out of my PJs for him and become this really put together Suzie Homemaker in Nike sweats that I bought for myself on his birthday. Wife of the year award = me. Soo perhaps we won't be on the couch all day, but for most of it for sure!!

Happy Birthday Hubs!!!! Psalm 118:24

I'm leaving the country!!

Remember the other day when I said stick around because I had big news but first I had to tell my dad.. Not ask just tell.. because I am almost a quarter century old and I've been married and haven't lived at home for almost three years and I am still the baby... but any who... I am going to Uganda!!!

Later this year I am going with Children of the Nations on a medical mission trip!! After a lot of praying, logistic deciding, and overcoming every fear I could muster up, I finally filled out my application on Monday night! I am SO excited!! The people that I've spoken with at COTN have been nothing but supportive and have answered all my questions and then some and everything about this trip just fell into perfect place. I think God is pretty cool like that. What I loved about COTN is that they're all about raising children for "transforming nations" - caring for orphans in a Christ - centered environment to better them for their country so they can grow up and become leaders of Uganda, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and make their country better for future generations. Now I am oh so unprepared for something like this - I have never ever been out of the country! Much less leave the country and share what I know about my relationship with Jesus, and what I know about nursing... or what I don't know about nursing.. I have to get a passport! Among so many other things! But I'm going with God doesn't call the equipped, He equips the called. I trust Him, and that by the time I get there, He'll be doing all the work through me. I've been scared out of my mind to ever do something so drastic, and then I read the book Radical by David Platt and it was just the kick in the pants that I needed! And got some much needed encouragement from the hubs, my friends, my people at work, the family...

Religion that God our father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world - James 1:27

I am nervous and excited and I want to leave tomorrow but I'm sure I'll eventually have a mental breakdown and need someone to bring me off the cliff I'm sure to walk toward but how exciting to go and share what I know about nursing and be able to give care to those that don't have access to the healthcare that we do here in the states. And to go with people that love what they do and surely know more than I do. I am so excited for this experience and to share with y'all what I see and most importantly what I learn! What I learn about myself, what I learn about my Jesus, and what the people of Uganda can teach me and what the team I'm going with can teach me. The things that are making me most nervous are where in the world where I sleep!? Do I get to wear make up? Are there snakes in Uganda!?!?! and most importantly where in the world can I go to the bathroom!?!?! I am not your average roughing it kind of girl.. I mean I can most certainly go days without a shower and brushing my hair.. but I am way too used to indoor plumbing and get beyond cranky with cold showers (just ask the hubs). This will be such an adventure and exciting thing for all of us!! Yayy!!!! So please start praying for me now! That I am not a procrastinator and that planning goes smoothly, that I'm able to get my passport without a hitch and that my family supports me in this and God provides financially etc etc etc the list goes on - Basically please just pray for me as I prepare myself over the next several months to go to another country and that I can be a blessing to others in ways that I can only imagine they will be a blessing to me!

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "whom shall I send, who shall go for us?" And I said, "Here I am, send me." Isaiah 6:8

Week 2 Recap: Seaside 1/2

I'm just going to go ahead and throw it out there that week 2 was oh so similar to week 1, week 2 was a bust. Have I mentioned that I am a procrastinator!? Even with running!! And I am so not running in the olympic trials any time soon, (Go USA!! London 2012 - can I look like Kara Goucher after I've had a baby please...) BUT I do have this little thing called a MARATHON that I signed up for and a half coming up in just 7 short weeks...

Monday: I actually did good here and got in a nice 5 miles at a 10:40 pace and then did 20 min on the stairs and some abs.. great start to the week - I got this - I'm motivated and ready to pound out the miles..

Tuesday: Again, I was feeling good so I ran 4.75 miles at a 10:30 pace and never felt tired or like I was really working. Woo go me! And another 20 min on the stairs and some more abs. I was on a roll...

that quickly ended..

Wednesday: I had plans to do some XT and strength training... I even got up early to go to spin before I did the strength training, but that puppy.. oh that puppy and his sad little face keep me from leaving so often - oh yeah and I was so tired! I don't know how people wake up before noon and get things done... so I finally left and did the stairs and I was so hungry and I had plans to visit a friend, so after 30 min on the stairs I called it quits with big plans for Thursday..

Thursday: I really, really wanted to get up early at like 11, so I could eat and run and then do my weights.. um 11 turned into 1 and then I had to go, go, go BUT I did get in 45 minutes of weights, so today wasn't a complete loss!!

And you know how the story goes.. I go to work, I get my butt kicked (which I absolutely love getting my butt kicked at work - keeps me busy and on my toes) and I have to sleep for eight good hours so I can go back the next night and get my butt kicked again!

I need to make a sign to put on the bathroom mirror to adopt the The biggest loser motto of no excuses!! I am so working on it... I have a better work schedule for week 3 and I plan on doing no OT -

Can't Kick this stupid Cold

I have had a cold and/or a sinus infection since the Wednesday before New Years, that was like two weeks ago y'all and I just absolutely cannot get rid of it! And not for lack of trying! I have been sleeping like the dead and Juicing these -

and

to make...

and..

Which are so unbelievably good fresh that you will probably never again see me purchase OJ from the store or just eat a plain grapefruit!

and I've been taking all of these...

and have even lowered myself to taking these...

And yet I still wake up every day with unbelievable pressure in my face and snot dripping everywhere, out my nose down my face, down the back of my throat... TMI? Sorry.. But it is oh so true and it makes running so hard right now because I end up up sniffing, sniffing, sniffing, and then swallowing some snot and in turn getting nauseous from my own extra bodily fluids and its just not a good combo.. oh you were eating.. sorry, again. Nothing is every off limits in nursing and things don't really gross me out.. and all of this is making it so hard to keep up my training for my marathon debut. But the good news is that I have the mangy mutt keeping me good company!

What are your  tricks to kick a cold!?

My 2012 Spring Schedule and BIG news

FINALLY!! I've never even had a schedule. I generally like to fly by the seat of my pants for these types of things BUT this year, there were certain races that I wanted to run and there is a semi rhyme and reason to these. There really aren't that many - but they're all requiring some travel time..

So for 2012...

Seaside School Half Marathon  March 4, 2012

(this is from last year, but it's all I could find)

I am super excited about this race because I ran it last year.. didn't do so hot, but I did run the entire thing which was my main goal. But this year I'd at least like to beat my time. If I could PR from my original half time of 2:29 that would be even better, but only time will tell. Last year the weather was okay. Not great, but okay. It was about 50 degrees and cloudy with a chance of rain. Luckily no rain, just clouds. But this is a cool race because its at "home" in Florida, and my sister is doing the half again with me this year and my mom is doing the 5k. So it's a family affair!

Big D Half Marathon April 15, 2012

I had thoughts about this being my first marathon - but after thinking about it and getting a much needed opinion from That Pink Girl I decided to stick with the half. And my best friend lives in Dallas, and I'm thinking that I can talk her and her hubs into running with me and I have to meet sweet little EK - who we'll let Luke babysit while we run! And it's the week of my birthday and I have a vacation week and just lots of things fall into place. And after stalking That Pink Girl for the past two years, I might actually get to meet her! Creepy McCreeperson right here.

And drum roll.....

On April 28, 2012 I am running MY FIRST MARATHON!!!!

Yeee!! I think you all saw it coming, I've been talking about it for months but I've been oh so nervous and is that the right race to run my first full marathon!? Am I going to be ready for the hills!? Decisions! Oh my gosh - I moved away and yet here I am flying back to run there for not the first time but the second time.. makes sense right!? Well, it seems to be a good meeting in the middle for my sister and I. She and a friend are going to run the half, so I decided what better time to take the plunge and run my first full! My only drawback is that the hubs won't be there - I was really looking forward to seeing him and my mom and dad at the finish line - because what a HUGE accomplishment whether I run it in 3 hours or 6 hours - as long as I finish! But I'm thinking that this is just the beginning and there will be lots more races that I will be dragging the hubs along too and my mom and dad. I have exactly 16 weeks to get going. Working on a training plan (going a couple weeks by a couple weeks of course) and mentally preparing for those 20 milers!! Hence the half's taking place before hand. And a lot of traveling...

Oh yeah and if I can work it into my work schedule and the hubs will let me I might just add the 13.1 NYC on March 24, 2012...

Isaiah 40:31 ~ I will run and not grow weary....
